HOW IT WORKS

A MESSAGE FROM
STEVEN G. ALPERT

Art from when the world was young has always attracted me spiritually, visually, and tactually. After fire, after speech, artistic expression ranks highly in how we become "human." As a conductive element between defining realms of power and protection and as a bridge between the natural and supernatural worlds, this dual way of seeing is at the core of the artistic impulses of traditional societies. Artworks deriving from times preceding modernity and mechanical reproduction offer portals into the collective art history of humankind. Through these ancestral creations, we can learn to time travel and, in the process, learn more about our relationship with the world around us.

Living surrounded by great art is an exhilarating experience. However, there are only so many exceptional pieces at the end of the day, let alone masterworks or masterpieces. Presenting alluring, old artwork that traverses and transcends cultural and historical borders is the impetus for this community. We strive to keep the knowledge of the past alive by offering a combination of rich expertise and deep appreciation. The Mendaka Society is dedicated to respecting memory, art history, and the quest for creative excellence. I invite you to dwell in endless beauty and magic.
